designing presence with a minimal footprint

Bang & Olufsen set out to create a compact speaker that could deliver immersive sound while blending seamlessly into the home. A key challenge was establishing a strong, premium visual identity on an extremely slim front face with minimal footprint.

from constraint to concept

At LAYER, I contributed to defining the design direction by translating these constraints into clear visual and spatial concepts. Research and material exploration informed early sketch ideation focused on proportion, surface articulation, and presence, which I refined in close collaboration with the team.

a compact speaker with an elevated identity

Beosound Emerge is a slender, design-led Wi-Fi speaker that delivers wide-angle sound in a discreet form. Its book-inspired silhouette, carefully articulated front face, and premium materials give it an elevated presence despite its minimal footprint.
