project status: proof of concept

Kinarm-01

elevating a scientific instrument

Kinarm engaged Brash to redesign the enclosure of its Endpoints Lab system, with the goal of presenting a more refined, professional product for clinical and research environments. The challenge was to elevate the visual and physical quality of the system while accommodating complex internal hardware, frequent interaction, and strict medical-device requirements.

design under manufacturing and regulatory constraints

My primary focus was the enclosure design, working within tight constraints around cost, production volume, and certification. To avoid expensive tooling and enable economical small-batch production, the system was developed as a 100% aluminum sheet-metal enclosure, allowing large panels to be produced efficiently without expensive tooling investments. Material selection and construction methods were carefully aligned with IEC 60601 requirements, ensuring suitability for medical and research applications.

a robust, scalable enclosure system

The final enclosure balances precision, durability, and manufacturability, delivering a clean, cohesive form that supports both technical performance and user confidence. The sheet-metal construction enables scalable production while maintaining a high-quality finish appropriate for laboratory and clinical settings, reinforcing KINARM’s credibility as a provider of advanced research tools.
