bang & olufsen / balance / speaker
2020 - LAYER
project status: launched

a speaker sculpted for living spaces
Bang & Olufsen set out to create a high-end wireless speaker that delivers room-filling, omnidirectional sound while reading as a refined object in the home. A key challenge was establishing a strong visual identity and tactile presence within a compact, furniture-scale footprint.
premium materiality
At LAYER, I helped define the design direction by translating acoustic and spatial requirements into thoughtful form and material strategies. A major contribution was developing a color, material, and finish (CMF) direction, focusing on elevated, natural materials such as oak and Kvadrat textile, tailored for domestic settings.
sculptural sound with tactility
Beosound Balance pairs powerful 360-degree sound with a calm, sculptural form. The oak base and textile-wrapped upper body create a tactile warmth and visual presence, while a proximity-activated touch interface disappears when not in use, leaving only an elegant, furniture-friendly silhouette.
