Stackability as a design opportunity
Market research revealed a gap in the outdoor hospitality sector: while steel wire chairs are common, very few armchairs offer true stackability—an essential requirement for commercial environments.
Translating insight into visual direction
At LAYER, I led the research to identify the market opportunities and defined the core design direction for the chair. These insights directly informed the concept sketching and ideation phase, where I developed multiple design directions exploring comfort, stackability, and visual identity.
Visual comfort in a functional form
Allermuir Wire is a stackable steel armchair defined by visual comfort zones and a pillowed design language. A distinctive silhouette balances perceived softness with structural clarity, making the chair both practical for hospitality use and visually recognizable.
